Qatar Nat'l
Navig. & Trans. Co. v. Citibank, N.A.
ZEK attorneys obtained a defendant's
verdict after trial, in the United States District Court for
the Southern District of New York, in connection with a $180
million claim brought against Citibank by a commercial entity
of the Kingdom of Qatar in the Arabian Gulf. The plaintiff
had claimed that a Citibank officer had promised to issue
documentary letters of credit naming the plaintiff as beneficiary.
Plaintiff claimed it had relied on the misrepresentations
to its detriment, bringing contract, fraud, and RICO claims.
The case had a worldwide scope, with depositions being conducted
in Canada, France, Britain and India. ZEK also handled the
appeal of the verdict before the United States Court of Appeals
for the Second Circuit, which affirmed. |
